a haunting we will go.

Normally, I make a Christmas Music playlist to share with friends, but I figured, this year, what with the pandemic and all, people might enjoy a list of fun movies to watch leading up to Halloween.

The idea is to watch one movie a night (including an ‘unlucky 13th’ movie on halloween).

Don’t think too hard, and don’t google them for more info – just find them and watch (that’s part of the fun)! All the movies from now until Halloween are listed below – just hover over each day for the info! All these films can be found on streaming services.

Now, grab some popcorn and a beverage, and give these classics a watch! (I mean, what – are you gonna watch more Law & Order instead?)

Now playing. . .

TUCKER & DALE VS EVIL

As two good-natured friends try to enjoy their vacation in a run-down cabin in the woods, a group of college students pass by and mistake them for killers. What could possibly go wrong? If you like Shaun of the Dead, you’ll enjoy this comedy, with Tyler Labine and Alan Tudyk.

Snack: Traditional buttered popcorn
Beverages: a crisp cold beer or soda pop.

THE CORPSE BRIDE

What would you do if, on the way to your wedding, a skeleton hand reached up from the ground and dragged you to the underworld, to marry someone else? That’s what happens to Victor in this stop-motion adventure. The cast includes some very familiar voices, too – I always play the “who is that voice??” game.

Snack: Cake!( The store sells individual slices in the bakery!)
Beverage: Whatever you want, just serve it in a champagne flute.

THE 'BURBS

Tom Hanks. What more do you need? Okay, how about Carrie Fisher, Corey Feldman, Bruce Dern, Henry Gibson, and Brother Theodore! After an odd family moves in to the vacant house next door, rumors of bodies buried in the back yard stir up hilarious antics as the neighborhood goes nuts trying to find out more. It’s 1989, it’s Tom Hanks at his Hanks-iest, and haven’t we all wondered what our neighbors are doing in their backyard, digging, at 3 am, in the rain….? Snack: Rold Gold Salted Pretzel twists
Beverage: hot chocolate or decaf coffee

Sat Oct 22

BEETLEJUICE

How would you react if a gross ghoul takes over your house? Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Wynona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara are driven insane by the crazy and sometimes gross antics of Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice. Great special effects and a clever plot make this a movie that everyone can enjoy, and get a few scare jumps, too! Available on practically all streaming platforms.

Snack: Gummy Worms, or a cold shrimp cocktail.
Beverage: Your favorite soda or beer.

DEATH BECOMES HER

Goldie Hawn, Meryl Streep, Bruce Willis, an immortality potion and a love triangle go all sorts of wrong in this 90’s comedy. So now my question is: would you drink a potion that promises eternal youth?

Snack: Caprese salad
Beverage: Cosmopolitan, Prickly Pear Margarita, or Hawaiian Punch – and use a fancy glass!

Mon Oct 24

GREMLINS

1. Do not expose to sunlight.
2. Do not let it come into contact with water.
3. Never, ever, no matter how much they beg, feed them after midnight.
It’s a cute movie from Steven Spielberg.

Snack/food: Junk food or KFC drumsticks
Beverage: Your favorite fizzy soda

Tues Oct 25

WARM BODIES

If you’re looking for a Halloween rom-com, look no further than Warm Bodies. It’s about a zombie who falls in love with a living girl and it’s adorable! John Malkovich makes an appearance, as do some other familiar faces.

Snack: BBQ meatballs on toothpicks, with dipping sauce; boneless wings.
Beverage: How about some glowing-green Mt. Dew.

The Witches of Eastwick

Another 80’s comedy with a stellar cast (Jack Nicholson, Susan Sarandon, Cher, Michelle Pfeiffer). Three friends meet a mysterious man who turns the town (and their lives) upside down, so they decide to pay him back – with a little witchcraft!

Snack: charcuterie board or triscuits with spray cheese

Beverage: Martinis

Thurs Oct 27

THE ADDAMS FAMILY

Originally a cartoon strip than ran from 1932 to 1988, then a live-action television series, 3 animated tv series, three feature films, two animated feature films and a broadway musical. The one to watch stars Creepy Anjelica Huston and Kooky Raul Julia, Mysterious Christopher Lloyd, and Spooky Christina Ricci will absolutely delight.

Snack: finger foods (Thank you, Thing…)
Beverage: Hot apple cider, or a frosty root beer float.

Fri Oct 28

CORALINE

Your family moves to a new house, and you discover a door that leads to…another version of your house…Is the grass always greener on the other side? Featuring a great celebrity voice cast, and a clever plotline, you’ll never look at sewn-on buttons the same way again!

Snack: An egg omelette with mushrooms and a side of bacon, or mashed potatoes, corn on the cob and roast chicken.
Beverage: Chocolate milk or a mango milkshake.

Sat Oct 29

HIGH SPIRITS

Have you ever wanted to stay at a “haunted” hotel (or in this case: castle)? Peter O’Toole, Darryl Hannah, Liam Neeson, Steve Gutenberg and more get a little less than they bargained for in this 1988 comedy.

Snack: Appetizers (Crab puffs, mini quiches, chicken wings, pigs in blankets, go crazy!)
Beverage: whatever you want, so long as you’re wearing your smoking jacket!

Sun Oct 30

THE FRIGHTENERS

Michael J. Fox poses as an exorcist after he develops the ability to communicate with ghosts. The ruse appears to work, but trouble ensues when the ghost of a murderer appears and starts to target the living. This will definitely give you Ghostbusters vibes. Peter Jackson (of the Hobbit films) is responsible for this one.

Snack: Smores!
Beverage: Dr. Pepper (yeah, we’re going vintage!)

Monday - Halloween! - Oct 31

SLEEPY HOLLOW

Johnny Depp, Christina Ricci, Christopher Walken, Michael Gambon, Christopher Lee, Miranda Richardson – what a cast for this spooky outing by Tim Burton. .

Snack: Hot, buttered popcorn – movie theater style
Beverage: A hefty red wine, reminiscent of the 1820s.
